Posted in All Posts, Technically Yours on December 28th, 2010 by DavidWell I finally got windows 7 working and re-installed 3Ds Max, fixing the start up error it was having.
Here is a screenshot of the city scene I was working on before. It’s a mix of 3D and 2D that hopefully is something you don’t see as often in films. The characters are people I’ve been drawing for years, but never had a chance to use in anything useful, other than sketchbooks.
Some you are probably saying “That’s the same guy twice!” If that was you, you’d be correct. Currently I’m using him test out the scene before I spend too much time adding the other people.
Technically Yours on Haitus…Thanks Microsoft!
Posted in All Posts, Technically Yours on December 22nd, 2010 by DavidI had an automatic windows update on my computer recently. Since then 3ds Max crashes on start up, same as Chrome as well as my whole computer running slower. I managed to do a system restore to go back but the auto update started again and updated itself without my permission while I was away from my pc! Now I’m trying to do a system restore with no luck. It doesn’t open and when I click it again it says it’s already running. Seems this might take a while.
effing windows…

I went to microsoft.com to search for an upgrade to windows 7, so I could avoid all these problems as everything works fine on my windows 7 machine at work. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the upgrade for $79.95 which conveniently came with the option to download. Seeing as I wanted to do this ASAP I decided for the download over the disk sent to me. I download the installer and as soon as I fire it up I get the following:
After this I’m pretty pissed off. I try contacting Microsoft to resolve the problem and spend 10 minutes on the phone. After answering all the automated questions it finally connects me to who I need to talk to. I get a voice machine saying “We’re sorry, but this office is not currently open, please call back during our office hours of…” FUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
So then I went to support.microsoft.com to talk to someone via chat. I get someone and I tell them my problem by saying this:
I’ve been having problems with vista with the most recent update, so I decided to just bite the bullet and buy an upgrade to Windows 7 off your site. As soon as I bought it and tried to download it I received the message: “Operation is not supported on this platform.” How is it you don’t support your own platform and why did I just pay you $80 for something that won’t even work?
After talking to them for another 5 minutes they tell me “You may contact the microsoft store directly for assistance on this issue you are having.” Seriously? Is your job even needed?
I finally send an email to the Microsoft store and go to bed. In the morning I checked for their reply. Turns out I did buy the wrong thing… I didn’t realize this, but Microsoft has a $79.95 upgrade from windows 7 to windows 7. (Mind blown) Anyways, I explained what happened and they gave me a refund, so I bought the correct upgrade which cost me $119, but it comes with a download and a backup disk.
Downloading it now, next post should be from windows 7. I made sure to back up all my main files for Technically Yours. I tried moving the whole folder over, but it was over 72GB’s of stuff. If I did all that it would take me 24 hours just to transfer it…I need some faster hard drives…
Anyways, point is I should be getting back to work soon. Wish me luck and Happy Holidays everyone!
-Update 12-24-10-
Well it’s Christmas Eve and the only present I got so far was having to restart the install of windows 7 all over again! The modem is located in my brothers room and soon after he went to sleep all internet in the house ceased. I got my other roommate to help me go into his room and figure it out as they also needed their online Halo multiplayer fix. When we got in there we realized his whole power strip was turned off. I was worried that the internet dying would cause a problem with my install, so we got it back up and running again. I thought it was gonna be ok as it was still installing. After that I went to bed and then awoke later to a 62%. I thought there was no way 8 hours later it would only be at 62%, so I looked up the problem and it was indeed what I was afraid of, it was related to a lost connection. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Currently rebooting back to vista…why me?! D=
-Update 12-26-10-
Yesterday was Christmas, so I had to take a break from getting this updated. However, when I finally got to it running today it actually loaded up! YES! The only problem was it had no internet. I had to download the driver from my laptop pc and transfer it over to my now windows 7 desktop to get my wirelesss adapter to work. After that it asked to install updates. I thought I might as well as I was sure it wouldn’t be many, seeing as I bought and downloaded the windows 7 upgrade off of Microsoft’s website. They should keep that up-to-date for the most part. This is what I saw when I shut it down… for the next few hours.
At that point I just broke down. Luckily, I accidentally took a webcam picture by smacking random keys in my rage. Now you can all see what I looked like after this last inconvenience.
But you know what? After those few hours it loaded up and everything but 3Ds Max worked. So I guess the main purpose was not accomplished after all, but the fact I finally got my pc back up running with a new OS and all the files still there, makes me feel fucking pretty good.
I guess now I’ll try to get 3ds Max working again. Wish me luck!
Technically Yours: Progress
Posted in All Posts, Technically Yours on November 29th, 2010 by DavidI started doing some more work on Technically Yours. I managed to get this 2.5D scene finish for the most part… I might still have to change a few things in the future though.
Enjoy!
